December 2017

This past December, JJML Productions had the honor of meeting and interviewing Aiko Herzig-Yoshinaga. In the early 1980's, Aiko served as the lead researcher for the Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians (CWRIC). While serving in this position, she discovered lost military documents which proved that the incarceration was fueled by racism and based on lies. Her evidence was vital to the passage of the 1988 Civil Liberties Act, which provided reparations to former incarcerees, and the coram nobis cases which overturned the wartime convictions of Gordon Hirabayashi, Fred Korematsu and Min Yasui. At 93, Aiko is in amazing health and it was incredible to meet someone who so dramatically impacted our entire community. (Jon and daughter Mika with Aiko Herzig-Yoshinaga )
